Everyone Has a Story
I’m not really sure the point of publishing this, pushing the record button, or sitting down at the keyboard again. I mean, who really cares?
I’ve heard these thoughts echoed countless times across hundreds and thousands of conversations I’ve had with creatives from around the world. And, honestly, I get it. When we’re in the midst of the daily grind of life, our story seems so much more than ordinary it’s depressing. I’ve been there! The monotonous routines of wake, work, crash in exhaustion, sleep, only to rinse and repeat. What’s so fascinating about that?
My life isn't not always fun or exciting, I don’t really go on adventures, and nothing overly funny happens so I can’t even inject comedic relief! Except for this one time last Saturday. My wife and I were at a local coffee shop enjoying some quiet time. I was reading and brainstorming (per usual), and she was watching a video on her phone + AirPods combo with a steaming cup of fancy pants coffee in her hand. Well, as I sat there peacefully reading, I suddenly heard this sharp intake of breath and, out of the corner of my eye, I see her jump out of her skin and splash coffee all over herself. Fortunately, it wasn’t too hot so she wasn’t injured, but I nearly collapsed a lung trying to hold in the laughter. So really I’m the victim here...
What’s the point?
Well, that story was about 30 seconds of humor in an otherwise uneventful day, but it’s a story. To me, it’s just another Saturday with scaredy-pants...but to many of you, it probably got a token smile at the least, and you didn’t mind the 15 seconds it took for you to read it.
Everyone has stories, and not just stories about random, amusing occurrences either!
See, we’re all driven by something. We have a purpose, something that we want to accomplish. Sure, it might be dormant at this point or beaten down by difficult life circumstances and conflict. But, given enough time, we can all point to something that we want to accomplish. It’s THAT. That desire, the drive to do something is what makes our story worth sharing.
You’ve heard me talk about it before, life is about conflict. Stories are about conflict. It’s no fun while you’re in the midst of it, but the conflict that constantly threatens to overwhelm your dreams actually makes your story more compelling. It’s your tenacity and struggle to overcome that turns your story into something potentially world changing!
You have a story and a purpose, and it’s up to you to share it with the world. Embrace it, embrace the conflict that a powerful life’s purpose (a topic for another day!) brings, and change the world!
I’d love to chat with you about this and help you crystallize your story and hone in on your purpose. I believe that society is in dire need of more people stepping up, embracing their creativity, their story, and the conflict that comes as they pursue their life’s goals.
I can help you!
Let’s tackle this journey together and work to craft the stories that will change our world.
